Rush Jackson is a New York-based artist and designer. They received a BFA from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia in 2019. Honors include the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Fellowship to attend the Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art in 2018 and the Crosscurrents MFA scholarship from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Jackson is an instructor at The Cooper Union Saturday Program and a community member in the Y11 cohort of New Museum’s NEW INC program. They are currently enrolled in Type West, a postgraduate certificate program in type design hosted by the Letterform Archive in San Francisco.

Jackson seeks to use design as a tool to amplify diverse and timely cultural voices. They practice independently as Rush Jackson Studio, specializing in publication design, including artist monographs, exhibition catalogues, photo books, identity systems, and self-initiated projects. At the heart of Jackson’s work lies a preoccupation with language and a commitment to interdisciplinary practice.

Jackson is a 2022 AIGA 50 Books 50 Covers winner and has spoken at Aperture PhotoBook Club, Central St. Martins, and Maryland Institute College of Art. Notable work includes Arielle Bobb-Willis: Keep the Kid Alive (Aperture, 2024), The New Black Vanguard (Aperture, 2019), Jonathan Lyndon Chase: Big Wash (Fabric Workshop and Museum, 2021), and In the Black Fantastic (Thames & Hudson, 2022). Recent press includes It’s Nice That, AIGA Eye on Design, The Brooklyn Rail, and Philly Artblog.
